The common thread in this year’s DesignPhiladelphia festival, in our exhibit gallery and the 110+ citywide events, is DESIGN PURPOSE: Purpose beyond Aesthetics. We understand design can influence and make an impact in our communities and built environment, but most especially for our youth and future designers. For this SPECIAL Design Spotlight join us at the BOK Auditorium with Walé Oyéjidé, Esq. Designer and Creative Director for Ikiré Jones.
Walé Oyéjidé, Esq. is a designer, writer, musician and lawyer that combats bias with creative storytelling. As the founder of Ikiré Jones, he employs fashion design as a vehicle to celebrate the perspectives of marginalized populations. His work has appeared in exhibition and was featured in the Marvel Studios film "Black Panther". He is a TED Fellow, an Open Society Foundation Moving Walls Fellow and a National Geographic Explorer.
Suggested donation of $20 to benefit the Architecture In Education (AIE) , a design education program based out of the Center / Architecture + Design intended to engage Philadelphia public grade school students.
The AIE program, brings an architect, architecture student, and educational materials into K-12 classrooms, allows children to explore how architecture, urban planning, and design impact their daily lives, teaches them the design process, and gives them the opportunity to use their design skills to address a real-world design issue that affects their own liv
