Laurel Hill Cemetery, a National Historic Landmark founded in 1836, is welcoming members of the public to preview our newly designed future lighting plan. The Lighting Practice is helping to provide Laurel Hill with a lighting design meant to highlight the architectural and artistic features of the cemetery. A small-scale version of Laurel Hill’s new lighting plan will be on display as part of DesignPhiladelphia, and will be visible to the public from Kelly Drive from October 4th to October 12th.
A kickoff reception will be held on October 4th beginning at 7pm. Guests can enjoy refreshments in our beautiful Medallion Garden, before being invited on a special twilight tour to view the new lighting, some of our most noteworthy Victorian monuments, and the final resting places of our famous “permanent residents.”
Laurel Hill is America's first National Historic Landmark Cemetery, boasting art, architecture, nature and stunning river views. This final resting place of numerous historic notables is open daily with free admission for self-guided tours or recreation. Joggers, dog walkers, bicyclists and photographers are welcome. Unique public tours and events are offered throughout the year, with all proceeds benefitting the preservation and educational mission of Laurel Hill Cemetery. www.thelaurelhillcemetery.org
